According to a recent report from the Wall Street Journal, credit card company Citigroup Inc mailed out more offers than there are people in the United States during the third quarter. According to the Census Bureau there are around 308 million people in the US and that's including men, women and children too.

Although Citi has reached the entire US population and then some over the past few months, experts day the extra effort may do little more than simply increase their carbon footprint. Revolving credit usage by consumers has dropped to the lowest point in six months which may prevent the company from much benefit for the huge advertising campaign.

Still, there is a sign of promise for CitiGroup as the card is the first to be compatible with Google's latest creation, Google Wallet. Citi Mastercards are the only current option for customers using the new app which allows cardholders to purchase items with the wave of their smartphone. This could mean an increase in potential applicants and may be one of the companies reasons behind the massive mailings.
