2011 brought forth another increase in Discover Cashback Rewards Cardholders redemptions. In fact, there was a 20% increase in Cashback Bonus redemption in 2011 over the previous year. An incredible 73 percent of cardmembers redeemed their rewards either online or using a mobile device.
In addition to increased redemption rates, the traffic for the company’s highly rewarding online shopping portal which boasts up to 20% cash back on purchases was up as well. Sales through ShopDiscover.com were up a whopping 64% compared to 2010 and traffic to the site increased by 41 percent. It looks like the added savings for shopping through popular retailers is catching on with cardholders.
“Not only did cardmembers respond favorably to the extra Cashback Bonus that more than 70 top retailers offered during the holiday season, but they also appreciated the various enhancements we made throughout the year to ShopDiscover, such as adding merchant coupons and site functionality," said Discover’s vice president of rewards and product management, Dana Traci. "As for increased redemption, cardmembers clearly are seeing there's great value in redeeming their Cashback Bonus, whether it be for partner gift cards, merchandise, statement credits or on Amazon.com."
