altIt didn’t take long for Discover to realize how much their cardholders disapproved of not having the convenience and security of the online account number feature.

This important tool gave cardholders the option to create a one-time use card number to process transactions online. After less than two months of no longer providing these account numbers, the company has reintroduced them.

“After receiving an overwhelming amount of feedback about the discontinuation of secure online account numbers, we are happy to offer this service, once again,” announced a spokeswoman for Discover Financial Services, Laura Gingiss in a statement.

Now account holders will once again be able to use the service which creates a secure connection to their account where they can then access a one-time use 16-digit account number that will no longer be useful to anyone once the purchase is made.

Discover is one of the only card issuer that offers this extra layer of protection and although it is not used by a majority of customers, increased usage of these secure online account numbers is definitely a strong possibility as more and more cardholders learn about the feature.
