Mastercard announced today that PayPass contactless payment systems will soon be available at over 7,000 Subway locations in the United States. The world’s largest sub business will soon offer its customers the quick and convenient option to make their purchases without even having to swipe a card. The devices will be compatible with both chip enabled credit cards and devices.
“Our fans are accustomed to having choices when they walk through our doors,” explained Subway’s Senior Vice President and Global Chief Marketing Officer, Tony Pace. “Now with Mastercard PayPass, they’ll have another payment choice that is convenient and easy to use.”
The demand for contactless payment alternative is on the rise. Over 100 million PayPass cards and devices have been dispersed globally during the second quarter of 2011. The technology offers something that no other form of payment method can and that is a huge incentive for MasterCard to continue spreading the relatively new PayPass devices around the world.
“Since 2011, MasterCard has been at the forefront of contactless payment innovations, bringing the convenience and speed of PayPass technology to both consumers and merchants,” stated Mario Shiliashki, the Senior Vice President and Group Heads of US Emerging Payments at MasterCard Worldwide. “SUBWAY’s decision to provide PayPass acceptance is a testament to the popularity of contactless payments and out shared goal of providing consumers a faster and more convenient payment experience and a more enjoyable dining experience.”
The devices are expected to hit Subway stores by the first quarter of 2012.
